LEGO Duplo Legoville Fire Station is the kind of toy that kids come back to time and time again.Out of the box, there are enough pieces to make for an interesting afternoon, yet not so many that they would be overwhelming.The set is really well thought out with a helicopter, a control tower, 3 firefighters; a small truck that can pull a detachable ladder on a trailer, and of course there are a few plastic fires, a fire hydrant and a hose to put out the fires.The helicopter has a removable rotor blade.Control tower directs its flight and keeps it from getting lost.The fire station itself has multiple levels, including a landing pad for the helicopter.A truly useful and fun feature is a tube that the firefighters can slide through when responding to a call.Fire truck has blinking lights and sound.The blinking lights are great during the day.But in a dark room, they are very hard on the eyes - and for some reason our daughter delighted in playing in dark rooms.So we arranged for the lights to get "lost" - fortunately they are easily removable.Except for that one little piece, the rest of the Fire Station set is really well designed and kid friendly.Girls like Lego Fire Station just as much as boys do.Yes, as you might have noticed, girls love fire trucks too.I have seen girls and boys playing with fire trucks, with girls leading the charge to save a burning building.Watching how kids organized themselves, divided up toys and went into action was fun in itself.The only downside of watching kids play is that if you hang around them long enough, you may get invited to play.But if you think about it, being invited to play is a great thing.It would be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy time with your child, as well as to pass on a few lessons about fire safety.It would be totally natural to talk about danger of open fires, stoves, lighters, matches, and electricity of course.One of the great aspects of the Fire Station is that it allows parents to teach children important safety lessons without sounding like parents.During play, children are more receptive to new information and learning new thing.The Fire Station makes it possible for children to spend a fun afternoon with parents, and to gain important knowledge at the same time.
